If you are at my house for breakfast chances are you are drinking one of my green drinks.
My favourite post workout drink is a simple glass of goodness I have whizzed up in my blender. Have fun with this recipe, each season I add different ingredients depending on my mood, but the basics are similar. So customize this to your taste!
2 large 8 oz servings
Ingredients:
1 cup of filtered water or coconut water
1 Tablespoon of lemon juice (from organic lemon)
2 organic celery ribs, cut in large chunks
1/2 small organic cucumber
1/2 organic apple , cut in large chunks
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 teaspoon chopped cilantro
3 cups organic spinach
1/2 organic banana
1 Tbsp of Chia Seeds (that have been soaked, see note below) (optional)
Spinkle of cinanmon
Directions:
- Add everything to the blender
- Start by pulsing 4 or 5 times until big chunks are broken down
- Use liquefy speed till the drink is smooth. Approximately 30 seconds
- Serve in nice tall glass with a couple ice cubes and a stir stick
Chia Seed Note:
Chia Seeds are a “superfood” and the reason they are so beneficial is because they are rich in fiber, omega 3 fats, protein, vitamins and minerals. Chia seeds also contain….essential fatty acids alpha-linolenic and linoleic acid; mucin; strontium’ vitamins A, B, E and D; and minerals, including sulphur, iron, iodine, magnesium, manganese, niacin and thiamine; and they’re a rich source of antioxidants. Wow!
Soak the seeds in water or almond milk (1/4 cup seeds to 1 cup liquid) until they take on a texture reminiscent of tapioca pudding, about 20 minutes. Soaked chia seeds can be refrigerated for up to 5 days, so you can make a batch at the start of the week, then use them daily.
