Hooray! It’s that time of year when we spend our spare time scrubbing our little sailboat and getting her ready for her summer season of sailing. Woo-hoo! All the linens, towels, cushions get boarded and the pantry and lockers get filled to the brim. Then the fun begins!
This is my list of provisioning items for the staples I keep on board to start the season and I thought I would share it with you. Add your own personal favourites, as well.
I like to put the dry goods in individual containers and label them because when things get crazy you want it to be easy!
Once you have your galley stocked with these essentials you just need to purchase your fresh items for each trip!
Just for fun I have provided a menu for a weekend out on the water including a shopping list.

Staples: Dry Goods, Canned, Precooked Items
Having these staples on board give you a nice variety so that you will have great options to make delicious meals! It doesn’t matter what mother nature throws you!
- Pasta, quinoa, couscous, rice – variety of types, beans, dried porcini mushrooms
- Nuts, raisins, granola, oatmeal, pancake mix, almond/coconut flour, baking powder and soda, panko bread crumbs, crackers
- Pasta sauce, soup, tuna, tomato paste, pesto, capers, anchovies, canned tomatoes, olives
- Spices, salt, pepper
- Olive oil, avocado oil, sesame oil; vinegars, balsamic white wine, apple cider, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, mayo, hot sauce, hoisin, soy, bbq sauce
- Honey, peanut butter, maple syrup, nut butters
- Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, Perrier, wine, fruit drinks
- Michael made me add: cookies and potaoto chips
Staples: Perishables
- Butter, eggs, yogurt, almond milk
- Cheeses – our favourites are: fontina, boursin, feta, sharp cheddar
- Sandwich Meats – roast turkey, ham
- Lemons, limes
- Garlic, shallots, ginger, onions
