The Setting

My good friend was having a birthday and she wanted an intimate dinner with her sweetie, Michael and me.  She is one of the most elegant woman I know so of course that set the stage for “The Theme”.

Her partner makes amazing baby back ribs and so we thought we would have some fun and have a cooking contest…he brought his ribs and I prepared mine. This is my version! I created a menu of favourites to celebrate the ribs!

The Menu

FIRST
Garlic Prawns with Crusty Bread

SECOND
Mandoline Celebration Salad

THIRD
Award Winning BBQ Ribs
Michael’s Favourite Mashed Potatoes –  Spicy Baked Beans –  Not Your Mom’s Brussels Sprouts

FOURTH
Strawberry Shortcake

FIRST – The Starter

Garlic Prawns with Crusty Bread

Wine Pairing

I usually pair a lovely sauvignon blanc with these prawns – my favourite is the ultimate French Sauvignon Blanc – Sancerre!   It is known for its flinty, savory Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley of France.  Of course… Champagne goes well with everything so give it a try.

The Dinner

Amazing BBQ Ribs
Michael’s favourite Mashed Potatoes
Spicy Baked Beans  –   Not your Mom’s Brussels Sprouts!

Wine Pairing

  • Malbec (especially Argentinian malbec)
  • Cabernet sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Shiraz/syrah and syrah blends e.g. with grenache
  • ‘Supertuscans”

Table Setting

The table showcased my beautiful Italian dishes, german crystal, heirloom silverware, silk runners with egyptian cotton napkins.  The flowers were wild lavender roses.

Play List

We have been taking salsa lessons, so I created a fun salsa play list to liven things up!

It included:

Salsa Version Despacito
Mi Gente- J Balvin & Willy Willam
Escapate Conmigo – Wissin
Mayores – Becky G.
Felices Los 4 – Maluma
Bailame – Nacho
Perro Fiel – Shakira
Vente Pa’Ca – Ricky Martin
Chantagje – Shakira

After Note – The party was so much fun!  The enjoyment factor was very high and every aspect of the dinner was a great success! There was lots of dancing and plenty of giggles to go around.

All of the recipes (except for the Prawns) can be prepared ahead of time so you are able to enjoy your party with your guests.
